Financial challenges mean that caregivers (and sometimes seniors) need ways to raise their income. Getting a regular job or increasing hours often isn’t an option, so what do you do?

Some caregivers turn to the gig economy, perhaps by working for companies like Uber or by freelancing online. Others sell items, such as crafts. Offering small local services can be powerful in the right situation, such as babysitting or tutoring.

Saving money is relevant too. Any area where you can cut down costs can be a way to increase the money available for other things. 

Seniors often have limited income, which may barely cover their costs and makes life difficult. Others may have more money but make poor decisions that lead to difficulties as well.

Adult children often walk a fine line between respecting their parents’ autonomy and trying to protect them.

Health problems get expensive – fast. There are also many ways to decrease them. The problem is navigating all the different programs and their criteria, including Medicaid, Medicare, and private health insurance.

Many people avoid talking about end of life. The topic is simply too scary.

However, the conversations need to be had early, as things can change quickly and many people are caught unprepared.
